Nobody here has to explain the wanting or the stalling. Both of you know what it is to be interested all day and still need the door locked and tomorrow handled before anything can start. The good nights are the planned ones, and neither of you is insulted by that.
Where it rubs
The failure mode is two sets of brakes and no one on setup duty. Each of you assumes the other will close out the day, and the night quietly expires while you both wait.
One move that helps
Trade setup duty by night, not by mood. One of you owns clearing the runway, dishes, doors, tomorrow's alarm, and says so out loud. The other owes nothing but showing up.
